Biodiversity in our Villages

Published: 27 June 2024

We are working with RCT and local residents to identify grassy areas that are benefitting from not being cut and sprayed with weed killer.

At our first site visit Cllrs James Woodward, Adrian Harford, Adam Rogers and resident Louise Lake identified areas within Hirwaun that would benefit from this.

Cllrs james Woodward, Adam Rogers, Adrian Harford and resident Louise Lake then met with  RCT's Biodiversity Team to discuss these areas with a view to their mowing and spraying regimes being changed next year. The wildflower areas in our villages are valuable in helping bees, hoverflies and butterflies with the pollen they need to survive and by altering the mowing/weed spraying regime we hope to improve biodiversity in our villages.
