Cllrs Summer Visits
Published: 18 August 2025
This summer our Cllrs have been attending environmental events to learn more about what we can do to improve biodiversity in our area. This has included:
Cllr Eryl O'Neill visiting Meadow Street Community Garden in Pontypridd which is run by Pontypridd Town Council. This fantastic
community garden and woodland has nature trails, wildlife ponds and a
natural play area and is free to access. Please see their Facebook page
for more information.
Cllrs Eryl O'Neill and Wendy Donovan visiting the Celtic Wildflowers site at Penllergaer to learn more about wildflowers, improving
biodiversity, along with native varieties of trees, plants and shrubs
and their suitability for different habitats.
Cllrs Eryl O'Neill and James Woodward attended a training session in Penderyn held by Butterfly Conservation Cymru. They learned about the importance of the Marsh Fritillary Butterfly which lays its eggs on the underside of the leaves of the Devils Bit Scabious plant. Once the caterpillars hatch, they then feed on these leaves before hibernating in the grass over the winter, and emerging at Butterflies next spring. The Marsh Fritillary Butterfly population is under threat and our Cllrs learned about it's habit and what we can do to help.
